Overview of GIZ-funded regional sports complex feasibility study.

Brief information on the project:

The “Strong Businesses and Communities for Moldova” (SBC) project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), co-funded by the European Union and the Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) and is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The Project aims to improve socio-economic prospects for the population in urban and rural Moldovan communities. The project was designed to strength the staff and organisational capacities of the project's two partner cities (Comrat and Soroca) to promote integrated urban development. City administrations are supported in the implementation of the National Development Programme for Growth Pole Cities (NDPGPC). This programme was approved by the Government of the Republic of Moldova at the end of 2020. One of the intervention domains of the GIZ/SBC project is focused on providing support to partner cities in preparing for the implementation of some projects, included in the National Development Programme for Growth Pole Cities 2021-2027 (NDPGPC) and subsequently in Local Operational Plans. The projects were selected by the working groups for integrated urban development created at the level of each partner city. In this regard the "Modern multifunctional sports complex of regional importance (with swimming pool)" investment project was selected for the municipality of Soroca. GIZ/SBC project jointly with local partners will be oriented towards the development of the selected project until the "ready for financing" stage.

Our involvement:

VTG SYNERGY, as the consultant, conducted a pre-feasibility analysis considering impact on vulnerable groups, climate resilience, and community well-being. Tasks included updating the conceptual note, assessing needs and design brief, analyzing the building site, conducting a risk assessment, and developing an implementation roadmap and cost estimation for the sports complex. The goal is to advance the project to the "ready for financing" stage.
