Assessing energy efficiency in eight GIZ-Funded schools.

Brief information on the project:

A large number of public buildings, in particular in rural areas, are in poor condition from the energy efficiency point of view. Considering Moldova´s vulnerability in terms of energy security and its high level of energy intensity, EE was identified in the National Development Strategy Moldova 2020 as a key element of reform. In accordance with the Energy Community Treaty, increasing EE by introducing an energy reduction goal of 10% in the building sector (base year 2009) is defined as one of the seven development priorities of the Republic of Moldova. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIRD) constitutes the key stakeholder responsible for the sector. In line with above-described situation, MLPS (GIZ) has identified 8 EE projects’ priority measures distributed across Moldova. For each of 8 EE projects Technical - economic assessment and refurbishment concept of the project was developed and implemented. Also, MLPS project provided support to rayon administrations which are EE projects beneficiaries in the development of the Local Energy Efficiency Action Plans (LEEAP). Those eight EE projects are part of the rayon LEEAPs.

Our involvement:

The MLPS project, in collaboration with VTG SYNERGY, conducted an energy audit to measure the achieved EE indicators in eight schools following European Union-funded EE measures. Tasks included developing a work plan, calculating energy consumption and CO2 emissions reduction, providing comparative analyses, and producing individual energy audit reports for each school.
